Nightclubs vs Raves

On a lighter note this week, I wanted to write about how much I started to dislike the classic nightclub… think pop songs, bouncers who favor (good-looking) girls, VIP tables, and bottle service.

Instead, if I am looking for a night out to stretch my legs, I will crave for warehouse party, rave, or underground DJ set… call it whatever you like.

How I see it is that people go to nightclubs to show themselves off and to be seen. People want to be flashy, show their watches and cars off and ultimately impress a partner they want to take home for the night.

Clubs seem to be a place to show you belong to a certain class or group of people but with a rivalrous undertone whereas ‘raves’ feel more communal and closer to shared experiences. In raves, the majority look towards the DJ and dance in unison. It is rare for people to dance with each other and to push and be aggressive. Tables and bottle service are non-existent which reflects the egalitarian culture of the events.

I love that environment and I am glad I found this early in life.

This is simply my opinion and I cannot say that one is better than the other categorically. Ultimately, it’s all evolution and we need multiple shots on goal.
