11 months ago I quit my full-time position in a high-paying and well-respected tech job in arguably one of the most innovative companies in the industry. Most people around me thought and sometimes still question whether I made the right choice but I cannot explain how much this last year has taught me.
Honestly, the thought feels much weirder than the action. I am learning a lot and going out of my comfort zone as this is the first time I have not been actively doing something for my professional career. This amount of unstructured time has allowed me to learn about myself, other people, cultures, and pursue interests of mine which were just dreams years ago… one of them being starting a blog.
GenZ loves experiences over products. I would try to push this generation to strive for experiences that change one’s perspective vs. simply experiencing Instagramable moments.
As the saying goes, the winds of change abound. I am not sure why but my gut tells me big changes are around the corner in my life.
I am hoping to remain active on JJC while I also find/start a new role however the invaluable experiences that I absorbed during my ‘gap year’ or may I even say ‘sabbatical’ are truly priceless.
I would recommend everyone to take at least six months off if their financial situation allows once before they turn 35. This allows you to reflect deeply, correct course if necessary, and allow you to collect experiences that you will carry with you for a lifetime.
