A hobby of mine since being in middle school has been photography. I started off with digital but in 2018 I picked up and fell in love with film photography. Film photography has a unique ‘grammar’ to the photos which I have not seen replicated in digital cameras. You may have come across a similar experience with the ‘texture’ of the music one hears from vinyl setups.
There is an unexplainable beauty and craftsmanship in technology that is easier to perceive if you go to the edges (older or newer tech). You not only appreciate what humans are capable of building but also enjoy the central pursuit of the hobby with more of your awareness.
It seems like some things never change… as a kid I wanted to become an architect to learn how to play with light, space, forms and ultimately design net positive physical environments for humans to interact with. There is rhythm and emotion in architecture just like all the other arts which one should remember to appreciate once in a while to live a truly complete life.
