A fact of life: change is constant.
However, while speaking to an elder Buddhist lady in Leh, Ladakh, I became aware that the rate of change is what matters more than the change itself. Currently, rural and developing systems (think: nations/cultures) are undergoing a much quicker rate of change even though most of these places run on ‘agricultural time’ and not ‘urban time’.
Should we adopt a mindset to change in a slower and more conscious manner throughout modern society? Notably, traditional cultures and practices are some of the oldest surviving remnants of ancient human society and they usually change much slower than anything else in urban settings… think about any modern tool you use day to day vs the oldest villages and religions (which also preserved ancient scriptures and practices) in the world.
To me, it makes sense, to experiment with changing fewer variables and collecting data on the impact, consequences, and sustainability of the decision instead of always changing everything constantly and as quickly as we can.
